Focusing on the Positive

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life this week...
I didn't accomplish a lot at all. The week has been ruled by the children's sleep habits. That's all I'll say here for fear of spilling negative emotions all over your desktop. I wouldn't want you to have to wipe up that mess. ;-)  I chose, instead, to blog about positive things.

In our homeschool this week...

We're at the end of Week 4 of Term III.  We didn't have lessons this week. We'll continue on Monday.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
The children are going to Sea World again today. I'll be working since my daughter has taken the day off to take the children on this trip.

Each Wednesday, Lorelai's best friends come over for two hours. Since we're out in the country and our van is broken down, we don't get to leave the property much right now. So they come to us. We didn't do this a few days ago as people were busy with holiday stuff. But I assume we'll be back on schedule this week.

On Friday, the 4th, we are supposed to go on a field trip to a community-sustained agricultural farm followed by a group picnic at the same park we went to on this day. I can't wait to get out of the house!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share...
When all else fails, know that tomorrow is a chance to try again.

My favorite thing this week was...
Last night, I was seeking therapists who would help my children without forcing drugs on them. I've conducted this search many times with no positive results. Last night was different. When I looked at a list of local therapists, there was a familiar name on my computer screen. It turns out that one of my clients from years ago has become a therapist who deals with our particular challenges. I contacted her, explaining what it is we need.

She told me that she does not require the children be on drugs and although she doesn't take the children's particular insurance, she's willing to work with me, understanding fully that I am a single parent. Not just a single parent, but the only parent. I just sat in front of my screen and cried tears of joy. Finally. FINALLY! There may be help for my girls! A prayer answered? Yep, I'm pretty sure it is.

I'm Cooking
I'm not so much cooking as I am creating gifts in a jar. I'm going to be putting together gift jars for my clients and neighbors as well as gifting as a part of the 26 Acts of Kindness. This is where you take the ingredients of a recipe and pack them in a mason jar, decorate it, label it and include a gift tag with the cooking directions. Fun!

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

I was going over photos last night. We kicked of 2012 with a trip to St. Augustine.
These were taken at that time.
